Application of Dimethyl Disulfide 624-92-0
Applications
Used as a solvent and pesticide intermediate, fuel and lubricant additive, coking inhibitor for ethylene cracking furnaces and refining units, etc.
Used as a solvent and pesticide intermediate, it is also the primary raw material for methyl sulfonyl chloride and methyl sulfonic acid products.
GB 2760-1996 specifies it as an approved food flavoring agent.
Dimethyl disulfide, also known as dimethyl disulfide, is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of organophosphorus insecticides such as parathion and mitamphos, and as an intermediate for sulfur-containing phosphorous compounds such as sulfur-containing phenol. It is also used as a solvent and a purifying agent for catalysts.
It is used as a passivator for solvents and catalysts, an intermediate for pesticides, and a coking inhibitor. Dimethyl disulfide reacts with phenol to form 2-methyl-4-hydroxybenzyl sulfide, which then condenses with O,O-dimethyl phosphorothioate chloride in an alkaline medium to produce parathion. This is a highly effective, low-toxicity organophosphorus insecticide with excellent efficacy against rice stem borers, soybean stem borers, and horsefly larvae. It can also be used in veterinary medicine to eliminate horsefly maggots and cattle ticks.
